Tarot Tuesday [Jan. 5th, 2010|11:12 pm]

tarot

[stonetalker]
[Current Location |my home that needs cleaning]

In the previous post, we played with using the Tarot to help us interpret a fairy tale. Now, we are going to expand on that idea, and use the Tarot to help us write one!

Traditionally fairy tales begin, “Once upon a time,” and end with, “And they all lived happily ever after.” This is how our story is going to start and end, too.

Once again, draw three cards from your deck of Tarot cards, and place them in a row, left to right. The card on the left is the 'once upon a time' card; the card on the right is the 'happily ever after' card, and the card in the middle is the challenge for the hero of the story.

In your notebook, write down what three cards you have chosen. Use the probing techniques for each card, and write down your observations. When you have completed this, write a summary paragraph to tell the fairy tale. It doesn't matter how bad or goofy the fairy tale is; it just matters that you write it. In this instance, the sillier the better – it will get your creative juices flowing!

Example:

The three cards I drew from my Rider Waite deck were:

  •

The Queen of Wands (how lucky was that!)

  •

    The Seven of Swords

  •

    The Three of Cups

From the Queen of Wands I observed a woman sitting on her throne, against a rather barren landscape; the sky is blue, and the horizon is hilly, part yellow and part white. In her right hand she holds a staff, in her left hand she holds a sunflower. Her body language is comfortable and open, but her face looks contemplative. She is not alone; her cat is sitting at her feet.

From the Seven of Swords I observed a man leaving what looks to be a circus; there are tents with pennants in the background. He is carrying five swords and looking over his shoulder; he could be looking at the two swords he isn't carrying, or he could be looking to see if anyone is following him. His face is a bit strained, and his body language exaggerated, as if he is escaping something. He is dressed in rather plain clothes; I do not think this man is royalty or nobility.

From the Three of Cups I observed three women in gowns dancing, raising their goblets to the sky. The expressions on their faces is pleasant The sky is blue and cloudless. There is fruit on the ground, and one of the women is holding fruit in her hand. Two of the women have garlands in their hair. This looks to be a time of festivity.

And here's my story:

Once upon a time a lonely Queen sat high on her throne. She very much enjoyed the company of her cat, Rascal, but longed for something to happen to break the monotony of ruling the world. And that day came! The fair came to town, with its performers and blacksmiths and artisans! The Queen was so excited. She enjoyed watching the festivities, even though she was still ruling from her throne and she had to watch from afar. One day, just as the sun was setting, she saw a man she had never seen before. He was stealing the swords from the blacksmith! Oh, this will never do! She watched him, sneaking away with five swords, looking longingly at the two that he left behind. Quickly, the Queen rallied the guards, and while the thief was so busy watching who might be following him, he didn't see the soldiers in front of him coming to arrest him! The Queen was so excited that the thief had been intercepted before escaping with all of the blacksmith's hard work. The swords were returned to the blacksmith, and the Queen proclaimed the day be a holiday. Everyone gathered to celebrate, bringing the fruits from their fields, to share with each other. The musicians played, the young women danced with glee, and they all lived happily ever after.”

The Star [Jan. 4th, 2010|03:32 am]

tarot

[svartepetra]
January's Tarot card of the month:

"The Star" is the next step after The Hanged Man of last month. We come down reborn and back to the earth. Now we are able to submerge ourselves in life and the elements again, yet we still are able to remain objective to our surroundings in a physical and emotional sense. Having experienced the higher perspective of the Hanged Man The Star is a wiser archetype and knows the ways of her individual soul, the higher self and spirit guides. She is in tune with the cosmos as the revolving stars and planets above her reflect this. The new year, and new decade into 2010 stepped through a Blue Moon and a Solar eclipse all at the same time. The Star reflects on the rarity and the archetypal meaning of this synchronistic event created by the universe, and the great mysterious force behind it all. She is wise yet not broken, old and young at the same time, she regenerates and reinvents herself for the new decade ahead. Her glory is to be revealed more truly and passionately than ever before, and recognition for her accomplishments will be attained naturally. The Star is also an ode to Miss Stella, who will be re-born into this world this month. Welcome back beautiful one!

How to hold the deck? [Dec. 31st, 2009|11:20 pm]

Hi, everyone. I'm pretty new to tarot in that I've had a deck for awhile but I've just recently started to get serious about it. However, I keep running up against a question I can't really find an answer for. I feel really silly asking this, but I just have to know because I've done this too many times to count. When you're doing a reading, how do you know that you're not just holding the deck upside down? I've done a few readings where every single card was reversed (and when I looked through the deck to check every single card was upside down) and I'm just not sure if that's...right, I guess. Does this mean that I should read the cards like they're right-side up and I'm in the wrong place, or should I just take them at their word, so to speak, and interpret them reversed even if the reading would have been completely different if I'd been holding the deck the other way around? Thanks for any help.

Hello, Im new at practicing tarot. Here's something that worries me, for two nights the death card has been showing up in my future on multiple spreads. Fascinating, but why could this be? It scares me! I understand the nature of the death can signify rebirth, an ending, etc, but I have come at age 19 to a point in my life where I have very little to give up. In fact I feel it would be difficult for me to lose much of anything in my conceptions of myself, my beliefs, friends, material posessions, role in society, etc. Everything in my life is at the barest minimum. There must be much about the death card I do not know, anyone wanna give me some helpful hints?

The death has shown in my future on simple major arcana spreads but also showed up in the future on a celtic cross spread shuffled with the entire deck. I'm nice to my deck of cards and I sort them often so I hope it's accurate!

thanks! -eva

Engagement Cards [Dec. 25th, 2009|06:55 pm]

tarot

[ficali]
I've been curious about what kind of cards would appear in a reading for an engagement especially a surprise engagement? Aeclectic had a thread on it but I'm curious to find more answers. I've been getting a lot of aces cups/pents and king of swords as well as the hierophant. However, at the beginning I saw the Hierophant as a love triangle but now I'm not so sure. Also two of pents have been showing up a lot and somehow I can't think that it's marriage related especially with the infinity knot... a marriage focused on material/physical things moreso than emotional?
I also see the Page of Pents being a proposal card as well. But that might be a stretch.

I know my situation may be pretty impossible for something like this, but for some reason my intuition and third eye keep producing such feelings about this.
